I decided to start (another) blog of everything that inspires, consumes, and fascinates me! The name I chose for it is Gadzooks.com.
'Gadzooks' is generally used as in conveying surprise or shock. For example, if you and a friend were to witness something of surprise, (for instance, say, a lion running through the downtown section of a major city), you could turn to your friend and say, "Gadzooks! Did you see that?" The term is simply used to reflect the surprise you experience.
2. Or here are a couple ways Urban Dictionary defines it:
A term used to signify alarm. Popularized by comics, used on the the 1960's Batman show.
Gadzooks boy wonder, these tights are straining me!
3. And finally ... Dictionary.com says the good'ol origin and history or the word (always useful, of course) is this:
1690s, from some exclamation, possibly God's hooks (nails of the cross) or even God's hocks. The use of Gad for God (cf. egad) is first attested 1590s. Among other similar phraseological combinations (all from 17c.) were gadsbobs, gadslid, and gadsniggers.
Anyway ... on a side note (and just for fun!), let's see if you can find how many times the word "GADZOOKS" appears in the word search puzzle below. The answer is at the bottom of the puzzle for anyone who thinks they know! :)
